BULLETIN: TO ALL TEACHERS GRADES K THROUGH 5 AND GUIDANCE COUNSELORS GRADES 6 THROUGH 12-------- PLEASE TAKE TIME TO READ THIS.
For many years the National AMVETS (AMERICAN VETERANS), a proud veteran’s organization, has sponsored an “AMERICANISM CONTEST” for the youth of our schools. This is done in conjunction with the North Carolina Department of AMVETS and the Ladies Auxiliary. This contest is open to all students in public, private, and home schooled students. All JROTC students are encouraged to participate in this program. This contest consists of a“Flag Drawing Contest” for Kindergarten and 1st Grade Students. We offer a“Poster Drawing Contest” and a short 50 word or less explanation of the poster drawn by those children in grades 2, 3, 4 and 5. The students in grades 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 can take part in our“Essay Contest”. Each year our National Headquarters submits a patriotic theme for the Contest and this year it is “I AM PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN BECAUSE…” for 2011-2012.
It is really a wonderful opportunity for our young people to demonstrate their Americanism and Patriotism. It gives them a chance to use their skills and abilities through their essays and also their artwork. Our schools teach American government, they teach art, they teach social studies and those just naturally fit right into this contest.
We ask that your school take part in this Americanism contest. It could bring good recognition to your school, as well as valuable prizes to the winning students. You should hold your own contest and submit the top winners in each category to the NC Department of AMVETS and Auxiliary. From these entries, the state winners will be selected. This year, North Carolina was proud to have two National winners from our state.
Enclosed are copies of entry forms for each contest and rules governing each, and a list of prizes which can be won, on both State and National levels. These are also listed on the website www. amvetsnc.org under Americanism. Failure to follow these rules will cause any entry to be rejected by the committee during judging.
The deadline for submission of entries to the “AMERICANISM CHAIRMAN” will be April 1, 2012, and will have to be postmarked by this date to be considered.
Feel free to contact me, if you have any questions or need additional information on this program.
